Matt Cavanaugh and the Wounded Warriors Project

This is a PERFECT example of an athlete connecting with a cause he cares about setting a goal to help. Please take a moment to read and support Matt and his quest to raise 50k for the Wounded Warriors Project.

Thank You.

High Heel-A-Thon

Leave it to the Brits to put a new spin on a great cause. You’re not an athlete unless you can run 1.2 miles in heels. Yes, men included. All the better, you’re doing it to raise money for breast cancer!

Tunnel to Tower

This is a great story about one of our nation’s most trying days. It’s a great way for athletes to remember those who gave all. On September 27th you can throw on your uniform, firefighting gear or just your running shoes and follow in the footsteps of a true hero. Please read this story. It’s one of the more touching athletic events I have heard of.

Run For It

I was fascinated when I read this blog post. Before I give you the link I want to discuss the concept a bit. When I founded AthletesGiving, I did it with the intention of telling the amazing stories of various, lesser known Athletes giving back to those in need through their passion for sport. What I didn’t think of was that the person/people in need might be that Athlete’s family. This blog post tells the story of African runners who rely largely on their earnings from running races to support their families back home in their native Africa. You’ll see what I mean- http://awearnessblog.com/2009/08/elite-runners-are-not-always-r.php

World Bicycle Relief

For most Americans bicycles are a source of exercise, fun or athleticism. Rarely do we see them as a life saving mode of transportation. That’s not the case for many, if not most Africans. Cycling Athlete Johan Bruyneel, in partnership with World Vision and Trek Travel are hosting an event in Africa this November with a goal of raising $1,000,000 to help raise awareness of and solutions to the problems of mobility in rural Africa.
