Good deed of the week

He’s anything but conforming. Like him or not, Bode is a badass. His gift to ski is unparalleled and is almost as strong as his ability to piss off the press. You can say what you will about Bode Miller but you can’t deny that he’s a good guy and to prove it, he has a good cause. This is a quote from Bode re: giving back, “The challenge in life for most people is making the conscious decision to do good for others or to do nothing. It’s that choice that defines the individual.”

Bode’s foundation is the Turtle Ridge Foundation (I like it already because he didn’t call it the Bode Miller Foundation). The Turtle Ridge Foundation is dedicated to supporting innovative and progressive environmental initiatives and youth athletic opportunities throughout the United States.

Good deed of the week

Sorry for not getting this out sooner but it’s never too late to pay it forward.

I went flying in my Cessna 182 (aka the BUGSMASHER) today and realized what a treat it is to be able to do that. I also know how convenient private travel can be. Of all the people I have met, few are more passionate than pilots and this is a great example. There is an organization called “Angel Flight” and this is the low down.

“Angel Flight was created by a group of pilots who believe in the benefit of volunteering. strive to keep all aspects of the organization volunteer. We are a non-profit charitable organization of pilots, volunteers, and friends. We will arrange free air transportation for any legitimate, charitable, medically related need. This service is available to individuals, and health care organizations. We will also arrange transportation of those people who are financially distressed, or who are in a time-critical, non-emergency situation due to their medical condition.”

First Descents has used them in the past and they really do help non profits and people alike save a lot of money in times of need. Please spread the word on Angel Flight and if you feel so inclined (or if you’re a pilot looking for some “tail wind karma”) please make a small donation to keep these planes in the air!

Good deed of the week

In light of it now being the end of National Young Adult Cancer Awareness Week, I thought it would be cool to encourage people to learn more about AYA Cancer and make a small meaningful donation to any one of the causes associated with it on this link! http://www.vitaloptions.org/yawc.htm

Good deed of the week - The Right to Play

I love this foundation and it’s mission.  THE RIGHT TO PLAY foundation “is an international humanitarian organization that uses sport and play programs to improve health, develop life skills, and foster peace for children and communities in some of the most disadvantaged areas of the world. Working in both the humanitarian and development context, Right To Play trains local community leaders as Coaches to deliver its programs in countries affected by war, poverty, and disease in Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and South America.”

It’s such a simple concept, facilitate peace, education, community development and health through the simple act of sport and play.  Something we so often take for granted.

Good deed of the week - Recycle your cycle!

This is an awesome cause and a great way to be involved as an athlete. If you’re anything like most athletes, you’re a gear head and gear heads have to have the latest. Thus, they have “leftovers” all over the place. Re-cycle is a great organization that helps you clean the bikes out of your garage and send them to people who use them a their only mode of transportation.

There it is, your good deed! Get r done! Check out how to send your used bike to Re-cycle and/or send a few bucks their way. They’re doing a hell of a job!

Good deed of the week.

Check out the below link and give 5 dollars if you can spare it.  This young lady is doing her part to give solar ovens to communities in need.  The reasons for doing so are listed on her page and will shock you.  This is a great small, sustainable solution to many of the worlds BIG problems.  A small donation will make a huge impact for this start up.

Good deed of the week.

I’m a firm believer that by giving a little at the beginning of each week, you will have a sense of fulfillment and self worth that will last for the entire week.  Just knowing that you made a difference in the world, no matter how big or small, brings a sense of pride and balance that is hard to find anywhere else.  It’s an investment with infinite returns. Try giving 1, 5, 10 or 20 dollars and see how it makes you feel.

I will give a few different options to donate to.  Places I feel really need the money and will put it directly towards changing lives.  If you don’t identify with the causes I have chosen, please take a second to search for one that speaks to you.  You can donate to the same place each week or try something new.  No matter what, your money will be going people who probably need it very badly.
